Seattle 2018 Internet Supported Validation Worker Course

VTI has developed a combined internet-based and 2 live in-person weekend sessions Level 1 Worker Course. We hope that this course will enable people who are highly motivated but who live at great distances from Centers to become Validation Practitioners.

Rationale: Many people interested in being trained as a Validation Worker/Practitioner face barriers to participating in a course. Barriers include the distance to a training site and subsequent cost and time incurred with travel. This proposal for a Validation Worker Tele-course would modify the requirements to minimize these barriers.

Format: The course will be a combination of tele-education using the computer, 3 weekend in-person sessions, and weekly practicum. Each week, students will be expected to spend approximately (a) 1 hour in practicum working with a disoriented elderly person, (b) 2 hours on the computer (c) or some combination of these 2 elements not to exceed 2 hours per week.

Each practicum session should be video recorded in a digital format for potential review by the instructor and/or peers. For computer-based learning, students will either (a) participate in a live webinar, (b) review pre-recorded presentations (c) review peers practicum video and upload their own video and/or (4) read from required text. Course syllabus.

  • First and third Wednesdays of the month (Feb – May) at 6pm PST | 7pm MST | 8pm CST | 9pm EST.
  • Second and fourth Wednesdays of the month (June – Dec) at 6pm PST | 7pm MST | 8pm CST | 9pm EST.

Course dates – February 2, 2018 – December  2018. 

Two Weekend sessions:
  • 1st Meeting April 7, (9am – 5pm) and 8, 2018 (9am – 4pm), 2018.
  • 2nd Meeting Aug 11, (9am – 5pm) and 12, 2018 (9am – 4pm), 2018.
