Validation for Activity Professionals
Validation for Activity Professionals is an 11-week online course that helps you build deeper, more meaningful connections with residents – especially those living with cognitive decline.
This training includes watching videos and doing online assignments in your own time. There are 6 interactive, one-hour webinars where you will work with an experienced Validation Teacher and Activity Professional on Zoom.
- In Block 1, you will be introduced to new concepts and the beginning steps to learning how to integrate the Validation method into engagement.
- In Block 2, you will learn about normal aging and dementia, Validation principles, and simple theory.
- In Block 3, you will begin to practice key skills that lead to a resident-centered approach.
- In Block 4, you will go deeper into using more techniques and learn the difference between Validation and other methods.
- In Block 5, you will begin to integrate the Validating Approach into your daily work – adapting activities to individuals. Here you will begin your final case study demonstrating your newly learned skills.
- In Block 6, you will present your case study to the group for feedback and learn from peers.
This course concludes with a Gateway 1 certificate.
