Lesson 3: Validation Principles that Describe the Population

  • The symbol I would choose is probably all the pictures on my walls of family showing the love and devotion I have for my husband and children, and my neices and nephews.

  • My unresolved issues lie in my young adulthood, I started a family in my adolescent years before I knew myself. Therefore I tend to isolate myself from my husband and have a hard time opening up and expressing myself.

  • My unresolved issues would be my teenage/adolescent years. My mom passed away during my teenage years and I was placed in foster care. I was also the main support system for my younger brother who also lost his father a year before our mom passed away. This left me with feelings of anger and fear. Later in life when I became a mom myself I became more angry because my mom wasn’t alive for me to ask her all the questions a young mother normally has.

  • My symbol would be photo albums. They are photos of my children and family. The photos represent the love I have for my family and the strength I had as a single mom.

  • i would have to say my symbol would also be photo albums shows a record and reminds me of all the things we have experienced as a family good times and laughter

  • For myself generativity is something that i struggle with due to the fact that i do have a family, structure, and a carreer however we haved moved in with my inlaws a while back and still dont have our own house and as an adult we have in idea of the american dream owning your own house. there are reasons we have never left with inlaws getting older and my wife and i taking care of our sister in law who is disabled but i dont want to look back as an older adult (old age ) and regret and think of what i havent completed in my life.

  • An item at home that I feel is a symbol for me is my medals from when I did martial arts. I used to compete in various tournaments and win medals and trophies. They represent the strength I have, even though I do not do it anymore due to my fibromyalgia.

  • 1. Which stage or stages do you think are unresolved?
The stages that I think are unresolved are old age and old-old age. This is because they always look back on what they didn’t get to do or even didn’t get to finish something.
    2. What behavior do you express today that could be linked to this possible unresolved life stage?
The behavior that I would show is despair and anger. I think this is because if I didn’t get something finished, I would be upset/

  • A symbol for me would be fitness and weight lifting. There was a long stretch of my life where I was dealing with a life threatening illness and I didn’t think I would ever be healthy again. I had to start from square one just to do basic tasks that people take for granted. I slowly worked my way back to a place I never thought I would reach again. My fitness journey has shown how much I’ve accomplished in getting myself healthy again.
