Description
Validation for Activity Professionals is an 11-week online course starting September 8th that helps you build deeper, more meaningful connections with residents, especially those living with cognitive decline.
By the end of the course, you will:
- Enhance communication with older adults in all phases of cognitive change
- Strengthen your ability to connect with older adults on an emotional level
- Use practical Validation techniques to respond compassionately to distressing behaviors
- Creatively integrate the Validation Attitude to improve engagement and participation in individual and group activities and programs

Meet the teachers:
Nancy Brown

Nancy is a PhD candidate in dementia care at the University of Edinburgh. As a practitioner and researcher, she has over 20 years experience as a group supervisor in a memory day centre working with older adults living with advanced dementia. Nancy is a Certified Validation Teacher and conducts international trainings on topics of dementia care, Validaition, and cultural adaptation to health care professionals, families, paid caregivers, and volunteers and has presented at international conferences.
Brenda Deckman

Brenda Deckman is an Activity Director certified through NCCAP with over 20 years of experience in directing Memory Care activities. She is a Certified Validation Worker and has delivered short overview lectures on Validation to state activity professional associations, to the public, and as part of new employee orientation.
